Work wear, corporate styles and and business fashions for chic + corporate women.
There’s a movement happening, and many of my fellow fashion bloggers and even designers are starting to take notice. It’s called 30 Wears, and the concept challenges fast-fashion and impulse buying, which dominates much of the retail landscape today.
For the last 15 years or so of my life, I’ve fallen into this realm of impulse buying, not caring about what I purchase, or stopping to think about how often I’ll really wear that dress, blouse, skirt, and so on. However, since launching Six Foot Style, I have started to pay more attention to the pieces that I buy, and when I discovered the 30 Wears campaign, it sparked my interest. How many of the pieces in my closet could I honestly say I’ve worn 30 times?
Sure, choosing to research, save up for and eventually purchase a specific item requires patience, but maybe that’s okay. And with more retailers increasing their level of transparency in manufacturing and production, it's becoming easier than ever to easily see where an item was sourced, produced and made.
The next time I go shopping, I’ll be thinking twice before making a purchase. Will I wear a particular item 30 times? Will the quality stand 30 washings, or 30 trips to the dry cleaner? Do I like this item enough aesthetically to wear it next year, and the year after?
I plan on writing about this topic again later this summer, but until then, I took a look in my closet and wanted to share one of my favorite dresses that has definitely been worn 30+ times.
The dress is made by Calvin Klein, and was purchased at Marshalls about 3 years ago. I’ve worn this dress in both the warmer months and in the winter with black leggings and a blazer.
The ruffle detail on both the front and back of the dress offers a bit of flare, and I usually pair it with a black sparkle belt.
While this dress is no longer being sold, I was able to find some similar styles (click to be directed to the retailer's website).
