Winter … I love nothing more than crisp mornings after a snowy night, where the city is quiet, peaceful and serene. I adore meeting friends for dinner/drinks, and experiencing the warmth that fills the restaurant, as everyone stays a little longer after dinner, orders another round, and catches up while avoiding the chill outside. There is truly something magical about winters in New York.
But there’s the other side of winter which I dread … working in a professional environment while the weather outside is frightful. At the start of fall, I made a promise to myself that I would begin sourcing and buying warmer work clothes for this year. On the coldest of days, no longer am I going to “make due” with a dress that’s not lined, or be ill-prepared for the chilly morning commutes.
When I started to think about where to begin shopping for winter suit sets, capes, pants, etc. this fostered a very real internal conversation about where I could turn. I knew that I had to find companies that are committed to quality, craftsmanship, and truly put the time and thought into each piece produced. I was seeking classic investment pieces that would keep me warm, yet maintain a polished and professional appearance while behind my desk at work.
So, I decided to visit the WORTH NY showroom in NYC, to check out their winter lineup. If you live in New York, or plan on visiting, I highly recommend scheduling an appointment to see the showroom in person. Besides overlooking central park (the view will take your breath away), the WORTH showroom is a great place to see, feel, touch and try on clothing in a quiet, tranquil, and almost heavenly environment. At this point in my career, I still consider WORTH pieces as investments, so it’s truly valuable to spend the time seeing the current collection, examining the fabric, learning more about the materials/production process, and making sure your favorite pieces fit perfectly.
After visiting the showroom, there were five looks that I fell in love with, and look forward to incorporating into my winter wardrobe. This post is a bit longer than normal, but I hope that you can get a feel for all of the details in these garments, because they’re unmatched by many other places I’ve shopped.
Look 1 - Mixed Tweed Jacket + Overlay Skirt
This smart jacket and skirt combo has a lovely modernized look to it. As a woman working in the corporate world, I am continuously searching for suit sets and separates that are visually different than a standard cut suit. I want to stand out amongst my female colleagues, with clothing that incorporates personalization into it, in a flattering and classy way … this tweed suit nails it.
With a stand up collar, piping details, single button closure, form-flattering darting and inverted box pleating on the jacket, coupled with an A-line skirt finished in a faux wrap with angled edge, this suit is unique and fits incredibly well. Both pieces are lined and use a thicker tweed fabric that won’t wrinkle, and will keep me warm all winter long.
Look 2 - Ponte Zipper Dress + Double Knit Coat
Lately I’ve had a mild obsession for anything ponte because of its comfort and wrinkle-resistant properties. This dress is on my must-have list for the winter. A form-fitting cut flatters in all the right places, and is finished with two functional gold zippers along the collar. Again, the quality of the craftsmanship in this dress is evident from the moment you try it on. It’s comfortable yet substantial enough to wear in chillier weather. And I adore the long sleeves. I have been hard-pressed this fall to find long sleeve dresses that are work appropriate in a corporate environment. This dress is polished and professional.
I’ve paired the dress with a double knit, three button coat, cut slightly longer than a peacoat yet shorter than a traditional car coat length. This winter white beauty also has heavy merrow stitching and is flexible enough to move with you as you hail a cab, grab your toddler, or navigate your way through the winter snow.
Look 3 - Silk Wrap Blouse + Sleeveless Dress
I am completely and utterly in love with this silk wrap blouse. No joke. I have worn it to work on several occasions already and can’t wait to wear it into the new year. I even styled it on our recent trip to Italy with white jeans and booties as we navigated the streets of Rome.
The faux wrap detailing, paired with a high-low hem and shoulder pleating creates a soft draping feel that looks feminine and elegant. The shiny silk is brilliant, and the champagne color is a wonderful way to mix up your winter wardrobe (which for me usually consists of black, gray and navy garments).
I’ve styled this blouse with a camel colored sheath dress that’s lined and 100% office approved. Finished in a tropical wool, with a bit of stretch in the fabric, this dress will be a layer that I wear again and again this winter.
Look 4 - Tie Neck Blouse + Poncho + Legging
I’ll be completely honest, I was unsure how these three pieces would actually pair together, and whether or not they would be office appropriate. But I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and classic this look came out.
The luxurious silk charmeuse blouse is fabulously soft, and the exaggerated bow detail at the neck gives you ample room to pair this chic top with other bold pieces. I chose to play down the larger bow by draping a plaid colorblock poncho over my shoulders. This poncho fuses together some dazzling fall colors, and is held in place with a single luxe faux horn button. It’s genuinely warm as well. And to finish the outfit, I’ve added a curve-hugging skinny pant. Before trying these on, I haven’t found a pair of white pants for work that looked polished and weren’t see through … these are simple yet stylish and plenty thick to flaunt your best angles.
Look 5 - Stirrup Pant + Bow Blouse + Fringe Jacket
Without question, this will be my New Year’s Eve outfit. I was delightfully surprised to feel how comfortable the black Bentley stirrup pants were once I tried them on. Prior to this, I haven’t owned a pair of stirrup pants, and boy have I been missing out. I’m wearing them with black pumps here, but I love the idea of putting these figure-hugging pants in a pair of riding boots or ankle booties. Say goodbye to the dreaded bunching of your pants at the knee after trying to cram your jeans or ankle pants into boots this winter. Pick yourself up a pair of these … they’re comfy and will undoubtedly be a staple in your wardrobe for years to come.
I added another silk charmeuse blouse to create a monochromatic look, and then threw on this utterly exquisite faux leather fringe jacket. Have you ever seen a cropped jacket like this? It’s also available in silver, which is lovely for the holiday season (think office party, New Year’s Eve, a night out with your girlfriends), and is a crop length which is playful and fun. I’m totally in love!
